THE AVEDA

NETWORK

UNITES

AFTER DEVASTATION

FROM HURRICANE HARVEY

For the team at Josephine’s Salon and Day Spa in Houston, destruction from Hurricane Harvey was met with an outpouring of support from the Aveda Network, allowing the team to quickly establish a groundwork for continued business.

Considered one of the worst weather disasters in U.S. history, Hurricane Harvey dropped an estimated one trillion gallons of water on Harris County in four days, destroying countless homes and businesses1. Josephine’s Salon and Day Spa, in the Eldridge neighborhood of Houston, was among one of the many properties flooded during the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, leaving the space unusable.

For the salon’s owner, Vivian Yeh, this meant she needed to quickly find a temporary location and service supplies for the salon’s 28 employees. Getting them back to work was key to keeping up the team’s morale and sense of normalcy, as well as to offer their guests a place to find some wellness in the wake of disaster

In true Aveda fashion, help was already on its way. Aveda Distributor Neill Corporation quickly applied for a grant from The Salon and Spa Relief Fund on Vivian’s behalf. The Fund was developed by Neill Corp. in 2005 to help salon owners and their employees exactly for this reason— to get salons running again after natural disasters. Since its inception they have aided victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Sandy; the recent Louisiana Floods; and Alabama tornados.

THE SALON UNDER CONSTRUCTION, AFTER THE HURRICANE

“We were already well aware of Vivian’s salon and potential situation, so we were at the ready to help,” says Candice Hoz, Sr. Executive Director of Sales and Education at Neill Corporation.

As Candice was securing relief funding, others on the team were calling in donations. Within days they secured Ipads from SalonBiz, hot tools from RSession Pro Tools; hair color from the Aveda Institute Austin; and shears from Planet Salon and Hairbrained.

Just like that, the network was seamlessly working in harmony to ensure Josephine’s returned to operating capacity swiftly. Whether it was getting their hands dirty and ripping out sheetrock, donating goods, or simply offering moral support, Vivian and her team members were deeply touched by all those that helped.

“We felt the love that this network has for one another and it was truly inspiring,” Vivian says. “We have a long road ahead of us, but with the love and support from the Aveda network we will be able to make it through.”
